Press Release

UAE residents and visitors can get ready to pack their ‘bags’ for an eye rejuvenation treatment

Daman, the National Health Insurance Company and the largest health insurer in the region, and Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD), have signed an agreement under which Moorfields will join the global healthcare provider network of Daman to provide specialist care and treatment to UAE Nationals and expatriates in the country.

Daman was established by the Abu Dhabi Government to provide the compulsory health insurance plan for expatriates in the UAE. Holders of Daman insurance policies will now be able to access world class eye care services, consultations and treatment provided by Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai, at the hospital which opened in Dubai in 2007.

UAE citizens will also be able to obtain treatment and services from Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai under the ‘thiqa’ health insurance programme (depending on the type of cover held) which is managed by Daman. The ‘thiqa’ programme entitles UAE Nationals to a comprehensive range of healthcare services at all public and private sector healthcare facilities in the ‘thiqa’ network.

Chris Canning, CEO and Medical Director at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai, said: "We are delighted to sign this agreement with Daman and to join their global network of providers and look forward to providing care at Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai to Daman patients and to UAE Nationals under the 'thiqa' programme."

The services and extent of treatment provided by Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai will be dependent upon the type of Daman insurance cover held by individual patients. The agreement is the first to be signed by Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai with a health insurance company in the UAE.

Issued on behalf of MEHD by WPR.
